Rotary Teams with Coronation Park Committee to Commemorate D-Day

June 8, (despite the rain), was a wonderful day at Bathurst High School when Bathurst Rotary and the Coronation Park Committee teamed together to Commemorate the Anniversary of D-Day and Family Day. After a service held in their honor, several veterans, reserves, and cadets as well as family members and the general public enjoyed a BBQ, a wonderful musical score by the Community Band, children’s activities with the help from student volunteers, and much more. Bathurst Mayor Stephen Brunet and Liberal MLA Bryan Kenny were on hand for the festivities.

Thanks to all who participated in this annual event.

Rotary Participates in McHappy Day

McHappy Days bring together over 1400 participating McDonald’s restaurants across Canada, welcoming local VIPs to help raise funds in their communities. Since 1977 McHappy Days has raised over $32 million to help provide a healing place for families of seriously ill children such as the Ronald McDonald House in Halifax, N.S.

Rotary to Host BBQ on June 8th

Bathurst Rotary Commemorates the Anniversary of D-day on the Saturday closest to this historical date. This year, we will host a BBQ in Coronation Park and BHS on June 8th.

10:50 AM – Veteran’s Memorial – North End of Coronation Park by the Cathedral

11:00 AM – Fredericton Military Band and local Militia

11:30 AM – Free Rotary BBQ in BHS Cafeteria to bring awareness to Rotary Club and give back to the Community for all the assistance they give to Rotarians

12:30 PM – Indoor and outdoor activities planned in conjunction with the Coronation Park Committee – face painting, bounce house, splash pad, and other activities – ALL WELCOME TO PARTICIPATE!

Rotary Leadership Institute (RLI) Opportunity

Pat Perry is organizing a Rotary Leadership Institute (RLI) training session in the Miramichi in the Fall 2013. The session will be run on a Saturday (Date to be determined). A minimum of 20 Rotarians are required – to date, Carmel has received 6 names. Anyone potentially interested, please advise Carmel so the session can be organized. There will be no hotel cost – the Rotary Club pays the RLI fee.

Vanier Clean-Up by Rotarians May 31

The Rotary Club of Bathurst adopted Vanier Blvd as the street they dedicate to clean up every Spring. Rotarians are to meet at 4:30 at Atlantic Host on May 31, 2013 to begin clean-up and meet afterwards for refreshments at the Host. Bruce is organizing the event. Anyone wishing to help out is more than welcome. If raining, clean up that day is canceled.

Local Veterans Attend Rotary Luncheon

Bathurst Rotary holds weekly Monday meetings at the Atlantic Host with a chairperson and guest speakers or visitors. April 22 was no exception with a group of Bathurst War Veterans in attendance. What a wonderful group of visitors to the luncheon. In the photos attached are chairperson Rotarian Fenton Hickey, President Carmel Hickey, Sargent at Arms Carl Kenny, volunteer Ronald Pentland, and special guests Jacques Asselin, Sinclair Morrison, and Roger Benoit and other guests. Thank-you for your visit and special praise for your contributions to world peace efforts.
