Bryanna Kenny  Bryanna Kenny – part of “Me to We” in Asemkow, Ghana

Dear Carmel and members of Rotary Bathurst,

I am writing to thank you for your generous donation to Me to We. Because of your financial assistance, I was able to help to help build a school for many children in the village of Asemkow, Western Region, Ghana. With the help of 27 other humanitarians involved on this Me to We volonteer trip, we were able to make a lasting impact on sustaining this village’s economy and the education of many children who would have otherwise lacked an education, clean water, and sanitation. Within the short period of 3 weeks, progress on our partnership with the community was visible, and vibrant. Your support means everything.

I am also inviting you to attend Spencer West’s presentation on November 16th here in Bathurst. Spencer is a Me to We motivational speaker that has done great projects for this organization and has raised awareness around the world. He was born with a medical issue that resulted in amputating both of his legs from the waist down; Spencer walks on his hands. He has climbed Mount Kilimanjaro in Kenya two summers ago to raise over $500,000 for clean water projects. Spencer has also walked from Calgary to Edmonton on his hands in his latest campaign for Me to We.

Spencer is an incredible person despite his disability, and I strongly encourage you to come and listen to his story at the BHS amphitheater November 16th.

Please watch his story at the link below:

Once again, thank you so much for your support, Bryanna Kenny

The city will be hosting its first annual 5 km and 10 km run on Sunday, September 15th.  The courses will run through the heart of our city and end at BHS/Coronation Park.

We are looking for adult volunteers, to help with security along the course.  Students from both ESN and BHS (the two schools will be the recipients of any profits raised) will be helping out as well, but they should be accompanied by an adult.  We are hoping that members of the Rotary Club will want to help with this event.

If you are interested in volunteering, please contact Meredith Caissie at city.tourism@bathurst.ca.  The race begins at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday, September 15th but there will be a volunteer meeting held prior to that time, to review details.

Three years ago we began the first Rotary Success
Seminar bringing together Rotarians from D 7810 and D 7820 to participate in a
session that works on the unique linkage between the three majors program areas,
Membership, Foundation and Public image.   This year’s seminar will be held in Moncton, NB.

Each year we have had an increased number of participants.
Let’s continue that trend.  The day starts at 9 am with registration between 8
and 9 and wrap up around 3:30.   We are pleased to have our Zone Co-ordinators
for the Foundation, Membership and Public Relations once again coming to share
their knowledge and to work with the group.  Please contact me if you have any
questions. We look forward to a great participation from your district.  See attached flyer

The Group Study Exchange (GSE), is a delegation of 5 persons (4 non-Rotarian young professionals and 1 Rotarian leader).  The GWE program of the Rotary Foundation of Rotary International is a unique cultural and vocational exchange opportunity for young business and professional men and women between the ages of 25 and 40 in the initial years of their professional life. The program provides travel grants for teams of participants to exchange visits between paired areas in different countries. For four to six weeks, team members study the host country’s institutions and ways of life, observe their own vocations as practiced abroad, develop personal and professional relationships, and exchange ideas. Team members can come from corporations, small businesses, community organizations, medical and educational facilities, government offices, and non-profit agencies.

This year’s GSE team was from District 3030 in India.  Local Rotarians hosted the delegates in their homes, entertained them locally, enjoyed their speeches and knowledge from back home, and ensured they went away with an increased knowledge.  Thanks to all who supported this endeavour.
